Talk:Main Page

Suggested Changes
Uncle Don:
I guess I'm going to initiate this discussion with some suggestions for the main page. I'd try them out myself except that page has edits by non-authorized people "locked out."
In the (current) second section Under What Can You Create Articles About?, I'd link the terms Poem (I'd create something to link to for this one), Venues (to be replaced here later with the link) and Poets (to be replaced here later with the link) to the specific index (?) articles (?) for those categories of articles. In addition, I'd add other categories as appropriate and/or have a link to the Categories page. Perhaps an example article for each category could also be linked to. (I'd also make the reference to Anthology, Inc. in the (current) first section (Welcome to the Arizona Poetry Encyclopedia Wiki, or "AZPoetrypedia" as we here like to call it.) into an article link as I'm doing here.
In addition to the main page issues, I'd love to be able to add photos to any articles. But I note that the Upload File page is disabled for AZPoetryPedia
That's simple (I'll see in a moment whether my own links above work). But I know I'll come up with other ideas as the project progresses. Please let me know if this format for commenting is appropriate. And relocate this text as needed to fit the grand scheme of things.

Don-
This format works as well as any for me. Thank you for the notes, I will work on them immediatley... I believe that is what these pages are for...

Beta Discussion Items
- Another Upgrade. We moved the site to a new host, MacHighway.com. This should speed up the site tremendously. And, lower costs, whoo hoo! --boboratory 05:21, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
- Upgraded Server. We have updated the server from a G3 to a G4 Mac, and that has apparently increased the speed of the site tremendously. We are still looking for a new server, and will put out a fundraising call soon. --boboratory 03:25, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
- Site crashes. Site crashes are being attributed to the server, a Powermac G3, with SQL Server running out of memory while in operation. We expanded the memory allocation on the server as much as we could, and it has helped, but we'll need a new server as traffic and pages increase. We added a fundraiser message to the home page to ask for donations. --boboratory 04:07, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
Continued Upgrades/Updates
We've again updated the server, and should now be good for some time to handle additional workload. Additionally, we've added some additional functionality: Uploading files, and we have initiated protocal that forces new users to have their accounts for four days before they can post new pages. Anonymous users will not be able to create or edit pages.
If all goes well, our hope is to take the installation out of Beta status on January 1. --boboratory 03:18, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
