From AZPoetrypedia
Feel free to review the following Q&A for help in using this rescource. Some additional rescources include the Mediawiki Home Page [1], which can help you understand how to navigate and update pages in the wiki.
About The Site Itself
- What is This Site? This site is a repository of sorts, providing a place to track and archive the events and in Arizona as they relate to poetry. It is not intended to be a marketing tool, or a way "to find gigs". It is updated by you, the community.
- What should be included in this site? This site can include any number of things. Write ups on venues that host (or have hosted) poetry events, poets themselves, articles about big poetry events, poetry publications, etc. It should be related to Arizona, and poetry.
- Can I become a Moderator? You can. First and foremost you should act as a moderator and publish articles and review articles for accuracy. Each three months, we'll put a call out for people that would like to be moderators, and the existing moderators will vote to add (or not add) new nominees, as well as to remove (or not remove) moderators that have not contributed to the project in the previous 90 days.
- Is there a moderator Forum? Yes, there is an AZPoetrypedia forum on The Anthology Forums, located here [2]
About Writing Articles
- Can I add an Article? Yes. The best way we've found to determine if an article needs to be written, is to search first for whatever it is you're interested in. Typically, you'll come up empty, and if you do, the wiki will ask if you want to create an article. If there already is an article, check it out. Can you add to it? You are just as able to edit articles as write them yourself.
- Can I write an article about a poetry form? Sure, but you may be better served creating the article and referring people to the form's page at Wikipedia[3] or other such location.
- Can I use HTML Code in my article? Yes, to the extent that Wikimedia can accomidate the formatting. We have found some formatting to not be recognized, and we are looking to add extensions and plug-ins to the program to assist in expanding the availability of formatting.
- Can I upload images? At this time, the feature to allow writers to upload images to the server has not been activated. You can, if the system allows, use HTML to link to outside images, provided you have secured permission from the image owner to do so.
- Where can learn more about writing articles? Mediawiki.org has a tremendous rescource designed to assist users in understanding how to create and edit wiki pages [4].
About AZPoetrypedia.com's Writing Guidelines
- Why can't I post poetry here? First, let's be clear, if you'd like to create an article about a specific poem, please feel free. It is important to understand that poetry is intellectual property, owned by it's creator, and you may not have permission to reprint the poem here. Even if you are the author, we ask that you refrain from putting your poem online in the wiki. The moderators can never be 100% sure of a poem's origin. Sampling: As a measure of compromise, if you REALLY feel the need to throw some verse in the wiki, we'll generally allow sampling of up to 25% of a poem's lines, and that the poem be credited appropriatley to the author, and must have the author's (or rights holder's) permission. Short poems (10 line or less) may be duplicated with author/right holder permission and creditation.
Poetry posted without said permission and violation of these guidelines can result in it's removal and the dismissal of the member that posted the work.
- Can create an article for a CD or other merchandise?
If it's a chapbook, Compact Disc or some other poetry related product related to Arizona, yes. However, this is not designed to be an advertising space, so bear that in mind as you create the article.
- Can I put Adsense or referral advertising into an article? No. This would be considered a violation of Terms of Service and could subject your account to dismissal.
- If I'd like to put a link to a page that sells the item my article is about, can I? Yes. However, that acceptance is subject to the review of the moderators, and may be changed or removed if it is found to be against the spirit of the site. If the act is batant, then the users account can be dismissed.
