Founded in 1990 by Joseph A Giunta, Anthology bagan as a digest sized collection of poetry written by Joe and distributed on Arizona State University's campus. Over the next 4 years, Joe produced several issues, few of which are known to exist today. The magazine, along with the Essenzaslam Poetry Slam, would eventually form the basis of Anthology, inc., the nonprofit organization.

Anthology Reborn

In 1994, Joe was introduced to Bob Nelson, a recent transplant to the Phoenix area. Bob had mentioned in passing that he was interested in starting a literary magazine, and a mutual friend introduced them. Joe offered to allow Bob to use the Anthology name and also offered to perform some editing functions on the new magazine.

The two collaborated until 1997, creating magazines and distributing them nationally, changing the format of the magazine from Digest to Full sized and working to improve the quality of the paper. In September 1994, they introduced the first colored paper cover. In October 1996, they introduced the first 2 color cover.

They increased the size of each isse from 12-28 pages, and the magazine would generally fluctuate from 24-32 pages for the remainder of it's 10 year run.

The first new issue of their collaboration was released in june of 1994, 100 copies were printed and distributed through the greater Phoenix area, with emphasis on downtown Tempe.
